FILL UP YOUR VESSEL. Main Text: JOHN 2:1-11
To FILL UP is to make something full or become full
A VESSEL is an object used as a container for liquid (Collins Dictionary, 2011).
Based on the scriptures we have read through; I would like us to draw out two important lessons for today in order to be able to fill up our vessels.
By the way, when I say your vessel – I just mean whatever you are doing for your living, for your future, for your ministry unto God and the like – e.g., business, study, employment.
The Two Lessons are:
TAKE UP RESPONSIBILITIES
Taking up responsibilities can be an action of starting doing something, going in for, or engaging in an activity.
Then, to be responsible is having the job to do, performing a certain duty, or caring for something.
The servants were given the responsibility of filling in the jars with water for their request/need to be achieved.
Believers ought to learn, know and be active in the application of this Biblical principle of taking up responsibilities willingly
This should be done knowing that this principle was established way back during the creation of the universe – GENESIS 2:15 Adam was instructed by God to work and care for the garden
HAVE FAITH & TRUST IN GOD
Having faith and trust in God is so critical in the life of every believer
Marry the mother of Jesus had faith in her son – Jesus
The mother told the servants – “Do whatever he tells you” – to me that was the statement of faith and trust in her Son Jesus
When Jesus told the servants to fill the jars with water – they did without any question – a sign of faith and trust in Him as well
It is true that there is no way faith and trust can be separated from being responsible and vice versa.
We can find this application in JOHN 11:38-44 – the death of Lazarus
Marry and Martha calls Jesus to come and pray for their brother- a sign of having faith and trust in Jesus Vs. 3, 21-23
With all the faith and trust, the two sisters have shown – yet Jesus is giving them responsibilities – of taking away the stone
Jesus did his work of raising Lazarus from the dead, and still, the relatives of Lazarus had the responsibility of taking off the grave clothes from Lazarus
It is therefore so important for each believer to fill up our vessel this year again and always.
