2025 PURPOSE TO DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD
PSALM 23: (Key Verse 6)
- Psalm 23 to many of us, is one of the chapters in the Bible we love and enjoy reading
- The chapter portrays out what most of us need in this life, which is Protection, Provision, and Promotion
- These human needs and desires are broken down into things like: green pastures, quiet water, right paths, victory, courage, comfort, meals, overflowing blessings, anointing oil, goodness, love, acceptance others
- Because of all these good things from God – David chose to stay and dwell in the house of the Lord forever
- This is found in verse 6 where David declares his personal resolution of dwelling in the house of the Lord forever
To Dwell also may mean to Live, Stay, Abide, Rodge, Reside, or
# to live as a permanent residence
However, it should be clear to us that, the most important thing David is communicating in verse 6 is an act of Staying in the Presence of God forever
David decided to be a permanent resident in the house of the Lord, one of the best choice David took. Likewise, it is my prayer today to all of us here that 2025 we choose to dwell in the house of the Lord and become permanent resident.
Two reasons why we should decide to dwell in the house of the Lord:
- IT IS OUR SPIRITUAL OBLIGATION AND BASIC NEED
We learn this from Jesus who spent time in His Father’s house even when He was still young – LUKE 2:41-52
– Remember, in the house of the Lord we meet to worship and serve Him
– The Holy Spirit came down and filled the believers when they were together in the mood of worshipping God – ACTS 2:1-4
– The early church believers were encouraged strongly to keep meeting – and have time in the presence of God together – HEBREW 10:25
– In the house of the Lord, there is a bread that gives life, water to satisfy our thirst, and none of us will be pushed out of the house – JOHN 6:35-40
– It should also be clear to us that; it is more joyous and exciting when we worship the Lord together – in a congregational worship – PSALM 122:1-2
– It is important to note that the body or even relatives may not allow you to spend time in the presence of God, but the spirit will always want and desire such moments – MATTHEW 26:40 - IT HELPS BELIEVERS KNOW AND STAY CLOSER TO THE LORD
– When we dwell in the house of the Lord, we get more time to know the Lord and come closer to Him – PSALM 27:4
– During troubles and life challenges – we remain protected and safe in His dwelling and sacred tent – Vs. 5
– By the way, take time to think through the benefits one gets when he/she is closer to someone or something
– The more we dwell in His house and spend time in His presence – the more we become connected with Him and the more we feel the need to stay closer to Him –MATTHEW 17:4
As we conclude, we find Jacob in GENESIS 28:16-17 confirming and acknowledging “how awesome is the house of the Lord! It is the gate of heaven”. Brethren, let us be reminded that we cannot come to a point of saying as Jacob said or have the same experience Jacob had until we decide and purpose to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. I encourage therefore, all of us to purpose and resolve this year to spend enough time in the presence of God as we full fill our spiritual obligation and need, but also get to know our God more and stay closer to Him.
